(2009 අගෝස්තු 30) 1987දී ගෙන එන ලද 13 වැනි ආණ්‌ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්‌ථා සංශෝධනය මගින් යෝජනා කර ඇති ජාතික ඉඩම් කොමිෂන් සභාව විසි දෙවසරකට පසු පිහිටුවීමට රජය තීරණය කර ඇත. මධ්‍යම රජයත් - පළාත් සභාත් අතර ඉඩම් බලතල සම්බන්ධයෙන් මතුවී ඇති ගැටලුවලට තිරසාර විසඳුම් ලබාදීම මෙහි අරමුණ බව ඉඩම් හා ඉඩම් සංවර්ධන ඇමැති ජීවන් කුමාරතුංග මහතා අද "දිවයින ඉරිදා සංග්‍රහය" ට පැවසීය. මධ්‍යම රජයත් - පළාත් සභාත් අතර ඉඩම් බලතල සම්බන්ධයෙන් පසුගිය කාලය පුරාම ගැටුම් පැවැති අතර වත්මන් පාලනය යටතේ තත්වය තීව්‍ර වී තිබේ.  නැඟෙනහිර පළාතේ රජයේ ඉඩම් අක්කර 15,000ක් කෙසෙල් වගාවකට පෞද්ගලික සමාගමකට බදු දීමට මධ්‍යම රජය කටයුතු කිරීම හේතුවෙන් මැතදී ද...

M.S. Swaminathan declines Sri Lanka Preisdent's offer to be adviser for an agricultural boost in Northern Province

(August 13, 2009) Internationally renowned Indian agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan, who is considered the father of the Green Revolution that radically improved India's food output in the 1960s, has decided not to accept Sri Lanka President's offer to be adviser for the agricultural development in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.  Swaminathan, 84, visited Sri Lanka and met President Mahinda Rajapaksa in June after the Sri Lankan state forces defeated the Tamil nationalist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) confining the entire 280,000 some population of Wanni in refugee camps."I don't plan to go immediately (to Sri Lanka)...

Sri Lanka to get more loans from international financial market at high interest rate

(August 12, 2009) Sri Lanka is planning to issue $500 million of five-year dollar bonds, aiming for a coupon rate of around 7 percent. This is the second such loan after Sri Lanka's debut five-year, $500 million sovereign dollar bond, which was oversubscribed 300 percent when it was issued in October 2007 with a coupon rate of 8.25 percent. The government is in close contact with the HSBC and JP Morgan with regard to the loan subject.  Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal recently said the central bank would decide by August whether to pursue a $500 million sovereign bond, a syndicated loan or extend existing bills and bonds open...

Campaign for People’s Solutions to Food Crisis proposals and the petition

Proposals Food prices have begun to reach unprecedented levels. Prices of rice, wheat flour, bread, milk, coconuts, coconut oil, and dhal have increased two, three times during the last year or so.For the poor people who are already spending 80% to 90 % of their income on food, these price increases are totally unaffordable. About 46% of the population in Sri Lanka receives incomes less than the world’s poverty line of US $ 2 /day. About 30% of the children below 5 years of age are malnourished. These children do not have the required development of their brains and of physical growth. A large proportion of such children is stunted and is wasting. A majority of the people in the country do not have the required per capita Calorie intake of 2030 K.Cals /day half the population...

(2009 අගෝස්තු 06) රජය ජාත්‍යන්තර මුල්‍ය අරමුදලෙන් ලබාගෙන තිබෙන ඩොලර් බිලියන 2.6 ණය රජයකට මූල්‍ය පහසුකම් ලබා ගත හැකි පහසුම ආකාරයක් බව රාජ්‍ය ආදායම් අමාත්‍ය, මුදල් හා ක‍්‍රමසම්පාදන නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය රංජිත් සියඹලාපිටිය ජුලි 28දා දිනමිණ පුවත්පත සමග සම්මුඛ සාකච්ඡාවකදී පැවසීය.
