Fruit and veg have ‘unacceptable’ levels of pesticides

The findings come from the Pesticides Residues Committee, part of the Health and Safety Executive, after testing more than 4,000 samples of food and drink. The levels of pesticides varied considerably, with imported fruit and vegetables tending to have higher levels, according to its 2008 annual report. Indian agriculture team visiting Sri Lanka

Tiwari, Deputy Director General of Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR), is on a four-day visit to the country. (2009 සැප්තැම්බර් 18) ගෝලීය උණුසුම ඉහළ යාමේ ප‍්‍රතිවිපාකවලට මුහුණ දීම සඳහා රටවලට ඇති හැකියාව විචල්‍ය දහයක වැඩි ගණනක් ඔස්සේ මනින කාලගුණ වෙනස්කම්වලින් අනතුරට ලක්වීමේ හැකියාව පිළිබඳ දර්ශකය අනුව දේශගුණික විපර්යාස නිසා රටවල් 166ක් අතරින්  වැඩිම තර්ජනයට ලක් වී ඇත්තේ සෝමාලියාව, හයිටි සහ ඇෆ්ගනිස්තානය යන රටවල් ප‍්‍රමුඛ අපි‍්‍රකානු සහ දකුණු ආසියාතික රටවල් 28ක් බව පෙනීගොස් ඇත. ඒ අතර ලංකාව හා බංග්ලාදේශයද තිබේ. පාකිස්තානය හා ඉන්දියාවද තිබෙන්නේ හොඳ ස්ථානවල නොවේ. මෙම රටවල් 28න් 22ක්ම අප‍්‍රිකානු රටවල් වේ. මුහුදු මට්ටම ඉහළයාම, වසංගත රෝග ව්‍යාප්තිය, ගංවතුර, නියඟ, කාන්තාරකරණය වැනි බරපතල පාරිසරික ප‍්‍රතිවිපාකවලට මෙම රටවල් දැනටමත් මුහුණ දෙමින් සිටිති. එයට හේතුව කාබන් ඩයොක්සයිඞ් හා මීතේන් ඇතුළු තාපය රඳවා ගන්නා හරිතාගාර වායු වර්ග අධික ලෙස වායුගෝලයට මුදා හැරීමේ ප‍්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස වායුගෝලයේ උෂ්ණත්වය ඉහළ යාමයි....

හරිත විප්ලවයේ පියා අභාවප්‍රාප්ත වෙයි

Indian agro experts to visit Lanka next week

(September 12, 2009)  A team of agricultural experts from India will visit Sri Lanka next week to help in rehabilitation of displaced people in the north of the island nation, External Affairs Minister S.M.  Krishna said on Thursday. "Recognising the importance of restoring livelihoods, we are also going to assist Sri Lanka to revive agriculture in the north," Mr. Krishna told the Editors' Guild. He said India's "immediate focus is to see that the process of resettlement and rehabilitation of more than 2.7 lakh internally displaced persons in their original homes is achieved as early as possible." Sri Lanka's Eastern Province land asked for businesses

(September 03, 2009) Eastern Province Land Commissioner  H.M. Yasaratne says that a Colombo based Company had asked for 400 acres in the Padiyatalawa area of the Ampara district for maize cultivation.
